old-style radio drama podcast, Dreadtime Stories which is on Dread Central, as
well as my continuing series of articles on real haunted places in North
America.
places where books are available for purchases
Amazon. Also, off my website.
How did you get your start in writing?
I've always been a story-teller, but I didn't start actually writing until I was
in college. It was the encouragement of my creative writing instructors that
made me think I might have something worthwhile in me to write.
who are your biggest influences
On a literary level, Richard Matheson, Gary Braunbeck, Clive Barker, H.P.
Lovecraft, Poe, Douglas Adams, Rod Serling and Dashel Hammett. Personality-wise,
Harpo Marx, Vincent Price and Boris Karloff.
What is your biggest inspiration when creating?
My family, the world around me...I look at things differently than most people,
probably because I grew up obsessing over episodes of Twilight Zone. I can look
at any place or thing, and I usually come up with something macabre and twisted
around it.
Could you give us the details of your current project?
Dreadtime Stories is a podcast that hearkens back to the old radio dramas, with
voice-actors, foley sound, etc.
Bokor Island is a complete novel (I'm looking for a publisher) about a group of
ghost hunters that travel to a haunted island off the coast of Louisiana.
Vermin is the first in what I hope to be a series about an everyday guy who sees
ghosts and gets tangled up in all kinds of horrific weirdness.
The short story collection is something I've wanted to do for a while now, and
it's all weird, horrific and bizarre. I'll be running a contest on my website in
the near future to see if anyone can give me a title for it.
What is the next goal you would like to achieve with your
writing?
I would love to see one of my novels made into a movie.
Final four (questions we ask all interviewees)
When the zombies take over the world where will you be?
Wal-Mart. There's food, shelter, and they sell weapons. You can also lock one
down pretty tightly.
Jedi, Ninja, vampire, were-wolf, pirate, fairy or Spartan?
Since a were-wolf can only be killed by silver, and most everyone on the list
didn't incorporate silver into their weaponry, I'm going to have to go with
were-wolf. Now a Jedi that contracted the were-wolf curse...That would be bloody
awesome!
What one piece of art, be it music, book, film or
picture, do you think people must experience before they die?
I believe that everyone should, at least once, go to see a full orchestra play.
Preferably Mozart, but Schubert or Beethoven would work well too. Sit as close
to the stage as possible, close your eyes, and just let the music wash over you.
It's a humbling experience.
Give one fact that most people would not believe about
you?
There are lots of things that people probably wouldn't believe about me, but
first on my mind is that I was trained to sing opera. I'm actually an operatic
tenor I, which really trips most folks out to hear.
